Doors 7:00 PM. VIP early entry 6:00 PM. 21+, under 21 welcome with a parent or guardian.
Fifty Years Since Winterland
On Thanksgiving Day in 1976, The Band played its farewell concert at the Winterland Ballroom in San Francisco. Before a note was played, 5,000 people were served turkey dinner. The guest list that night became legend, and the film that followed made The Last Waltz the most famous farewell in rock.
That combination — a concert that fed people first — is why bands and cities across the country now stage The Last Waltz around Thanksgiving as a fundraiser. The Next Waltz is Albuquerque’s.
Four Years, More Than a Ton of Food
Tony Orant moved to the Albuquerque area twelve years ago and was struck by the need he saw here and across the country to support local food banks. A professional musician, he knew he would eventually be able to help through music.
This is the fourth year Tony O and The Greatest Band Ever have performed The Last Waltz at the Historic Lobo Theater. Last year the show also played Tumbleroot Brewery and Distillery in Santa Fe. Over four years, Tony and the band have collected more than a ton of food for Roadrunner Food Bank.
This year the goal is 10,000 pounds — and nearly 1,200 pounds have already been donated.
Bring Food
Please bring non-perishable food donations to the show, or drop them at collection points around the city ahead of the night. See the event page on Facebook for pre-show events and donation locations.
Monetary donations go to New Day, which has provided services and transitional housing for youth in need since 1976 — its own 50th anniversary. Roadrunner Food Bank of New Mexico, a Feeding America member, is the largest nonprofit dedicated to solving food insecurity in New Mexico.
