He would say for the rest of his life that the souls of those dying men entered him on that New Mexico highway. He referenced it in interviews, in his poetry, and in lyrics like “Indians scattered on dawn’s highway bleeding” from “Peace Frog.” For a Doors fan, there’s no better place than Albuquerque to mark the anniversary of his passing.
