Doc Martin
Doc Martin has close to 40 years behind the decks. He started spinning house in San Francisco in the mid 1980s and settled in Los Angeles in 1990, where he became the first West Coast DJ to hold residencies at New York rooms including the Roxy, Twilo and the Tunnel. He has run the Sublevel label and party series for 25 years. What he plays is deep house and funky tribal grooves, built for a long night instead of a quick peak.
The Lineup
Doc Martin headlines. DJ Ken, Chris Losack, 8-Bit Hero, Sin7 and Mr. Happy take the rest of the night.
What Groove Therapy Is
The Lava Room started Groove Therapy at the Lobo in August with seven DJs running funk, disco roots and deep house from doors to last call. Round two keeps that format and puts a headliner on top of it. The DJ is the main act and the dance floor is the stage.
The Venue
The Historic Lobo Theater has stood on Route 66 since 1938. Big floor, full bar, a real sound system, and the marquee out front at 3013 Central Ave NE in Nob Hill. Street parking runs along Central and the side streets around it.
